Got a chance to use my friend's computer, just for a moment. It feels a little strange, but also good, to be sitting in the same place exactly one year ago. Things seem familiar to me, like the way we walk into town, the way things look, even where things are. In a way, after going back to Australia, I had it set in my mind, that there was the possibility that I could never see SuJeong, Hyunpil... or even Korea again. But, dreams to come true, I guess ;)
Today, slept in, went shopping (and had my first Big Mac in over 2 months... was okay... yeah, just okay), watched Naniya, and then had dinner with SuJeong and Hyunpil. we had a little bit of Soju to drink, so we are feeling happy now ;) hehe...
On New Years Eve, or a few days before... That is when their TV networks have their award shows. They have like acts, presenters presenting stuff, and many ofther things. They are pretty good ;)
Anyway, dont want to stay here too long... Got friends to hang out with ^^
Thanks for the early birthday presents Mum, Dad and sisters ^^ and for the cherry ripes ^^
Because of the snow last week, things were slowed to a crawl in the town... Didn't work for wednesday, thursday and friday. Luckily, it is not taken out of my annual holidays, as it is for another teacher at his hagwon. He got into an argument about it his with boss, and then compared his situation to mine (with his boss). We're in a small town, so rumours and things like that travel pretty fast. His boss talked to my boss about it. I'm not in trouble, but I think I might have to be a little bit more careful about this kind of thing.
To be honest, I don't think it is fair that his 3 days get taken from his holidays. His boss decided to close work, because of the snow. It should not be taken out of his holidays. I talked to my boss about the same thing. I'm not loosing holidays. For some reason, all the Hagwon bosses in town get together, and they have meetings. They decided that certain things would happen at their places, but, in three different hagwons, three different things happened. One hagwon was open friday, another teachers was closed (but he's loosing 3 holiday days), and mine was closed too (but i'm not loosing holiday days). I can understand them trying to keep in touch with the other hagwon owners, and trying to keep things to some level on consistency... but they also have their business to run.
So, had a very long weekend.
Had dinner with the two other english teachers mentioned before on christmas night. Was good to sit down at a table, with other English speakers, and have a decent cooked western meal, and to share stories and stuff like that.
Going to go to Changwon for a few days, starting this weekend, to stay with some friends. Will be good to spend time with them, especially since it is new years. Last new years, I was with them as well ;)
Other than all that... i'll keep it to a summary:
New timetable for work will start next week, since next week, all the school will be on vacation, for almost two months.
Got my gas bill for the last two months, 122000won! (like $150). Thinking about getting a heating mat, to go under my sleeping mat, so that I dont use too much gas for heating.
Finally had a go of those "try to get a toy with the claw" contraptions. See the photo below. They're everywhere in Korea!
Thanks for the christmas presents Mum, Dad and sisters ^^
After two days of sunshine, it snowed last night and today. Its really windy, and snowing heaps! The snow whips into your eyes, and sticks to you straight away... and because you are warmer than the snow, it melts... but, because its really cold outside, the melted snow freezes again, and turns into ice on your clothes... and then more snow sticks to the ice... its INSANE (in a bad way)!
The korean news said that there was about 7-10cm in Jeollanam-do (the state I am in). Only Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do are the areas. Here, it's at least 20cm of snow! Visibility was down to a few meters when the boss drove me home. I was on my way to work, when the boss called and said "no work today because of the snow"... he could have told me half an hour ago!! Another teacher I know here, got a taxi to work... and he was hoping his boss would call him, and say "no work today"... but, the teacher got to work, and the boss said "sorry, i didn't call you... no work today". I've had things happen to me like that from my boss as well, like telling you things the last minute, like class changes or cancellations. Its just korean style. Even invitiations are done that way. Drinking, dinner... done on the spot. Even important family things, if you get a chance to be invited (like 100-day birthday parties for friends children), if its involving a freind's family and they invite you, its rude if you say no.
Had my first religious doorknockers in Korea today, and one of them spoke English. That annoys me. Does God teach people not to take "no" as answer? And to make things worse, when you say "no, I don't beleive in Jesus Christ", they get all rude and want to know why...
Other than that, my day was okay. It was sunny today, so some snow has melted, but my boss said that it will snow on Wednesday... I hope it doesn't.. I would like the snow that is already here, to melt away, and have a few sunny days before it snows again...

Figured out why I couldn't sleep. The previous two nights, I didn't go to 검도 practice, so I had extra energy. I went to 검도 practice tonight, and I was absolutely buggered after 20 minutes! I'll have to go every day from now on, it feels pretty bad not going for a couple of days...
Its almost 6am here in Korea, and I'm at the computer... because I can't sleep! It's so annoying!
I don't really like to do this here (not often anyway), but tonight, I'm gonna have a big, massive winge about shit! Shit that is in Korea, and that is pissing me off in any way, shape of form.
First, lest start with my apartment. The toilet is fucked! Firstly, I get told not to put toilet paper down the toilet, bceause that blocks it up. WHY HAVE A TOILET THAT CAN'T FLUSH THE PAPER THAT YOU WIPE YOUR ASS WITH? So, I have to put the paper that I use, in a bag, then put that bag in the rubbish. But, that doens't help. The toilet still blocks up, with no paper... just shit! It's been like that for a while now, and I have to go up to the 14th floor, to use another foreign teachers toilet, or the toilet at work! No matter which country you're in... it's just not good, or sanitary.
Secondly: my boss treats me as the "foreign teacher that you need to run a sucessful hagwon in korea" teacher. In Korea, a children's education is the most important thing a parent can provide for their children. How am I meant to do that, when I get told at the last minute of changes in my timetable? How am I meant to teach them proper English pronunciation, when my boss teaches them konglish pronunciation? Students complain to my boss when I do something that's slightly incorrect, or its too easy or too hard... who is the fucking teacher here? English isn't about testing all the time, remembering passages in English, or working from a workbook. Unfortunately, that is what students are used to in their education system here (or at least, that is my impression). They want a number, to see who is better.
Along with teaching English, students learn about the culture and other things that are associated with the culture of the teacher. They have to realise, that English is spoken differently in other parts of the world. I have children, that can't think outside of American English (all aspects, including the accent). From what I understand, Koreans learn American English, because that is what if spoon-fed to them in popular entertainment. That is definatley the wrong attitiude to have. For example, with some students, as long as I sound like I am from the sitcom "Friends", they can understand me. That really shits me. I'm fine with talking slow, and over-pronouncing words so they can hear the sounds, but talking with a stereotypical american accent? FUCK THAT!
Now, let me talk about Korean society and culture. Normally, it is easier to put all the good things, into one easy idea, but then all the bad things, to go into great depth... and that is exactly what's going to happen now.
In general, Koreans are very helpful, kind, caring and fun people. They find English and Western people fascinating, and want them to have a good impression of Korea. I've had many situations already, where a complete stranger has helped me in some way (giving me directions, a stranger helping me with korean/english stuff, etc). I've met some really nice people here, and they have become friends.
But...
Here are a few things that I've learned...
Elderly Koreans (especially women) have the ability to just push into any line, in frony of anyone they like, even if they look a day younger than them. The idea behind this, is that they've been here for a long time, they deserve respect, and I'm cool with that. But when a short old korean woman, tries to push into the line you've been in for about 15 minutes, trying to get a bus ticket to Seoul (in which you will be on the bus for about 4 hours), while you are trying to speak korean... she can get FUCKED! It's hard enough saying Korean, trying to organise the whole Korean money thing (I'll talk about that later), making sure you're in the right line in the first place... and then this old person pushes in half way though attempting to buy the ticket!
Korean's cant take criticism well when it comes to their country. If a Korean asks you your opinion about things you think are bad, just ignore the question. It isn't rude to ignore questions in Korean culture, it just means that you dont want to talk about it. If half way though a conversation, and a Korean just walks off and does something else and comes back, doesn't mean you're boring as fuck... well, it could mean that, but even so, its rude. So, if you say that you don't like Seoul because it's too crouded, or that Koreans wallpapering the ceiling with the exact same wallpaper as the walls is insane, or that Koreans can't drive properly, because, like bus ticket lines, they're all trying to get infront of each other... just keep that to yourself.
Or, you could tell them that they should get a better money system. The Korean cash system would be the equivaltent of the $10 note being the biggest unit of currency in Australia. Trying to take out $300 from your account would need Ancheint Roman slaves to carry wherever you go. The biggest note in Korea is 10000won. Roughtly, 10000 is about $12 Australian. There are many things in Australia that cost more that $12, or collectively (like shopping). Same with Korea. No matter what you do, you gotta take all these notes with you. The opposite is also the case. The smallest unit is 10won (roughly 1.2cents in Australia). You can't do anything with 10 won!
Other than all that... things are okay here ^^
The first snow in SaChang. I woke up at 11am, to a message my boss left me at about 8:40am, saying "enjoy the snow"... So, I looked outside... It was about 10cm thick on the ground! After getting ready to come to the PCbang, there was even more... Feels kinda weird to live somewhere where it snows... but, its cool ;)
You can smell it in the air... the smell of fresh Kimchi being made! haha. I went to a friends house today, and they were making Kimchi - like an annual Kimchi party. Heaps of women sitting round, coating a type of cabbage with hot spicy stuff, mixed with onions and other stuff i dont know... tastes okay though ;)
Still a bit sore from Komdo, but, its okay. It's been a week, and its a real workout... hehe. As koreans say "its good for your health".
I got electructed while changing a light thursday night. From a light socket that was turned off! That's three things I've found dodgy with my apartment: Hot water service (that's fixed), the toilet that can't handle any amount of toilet paper whatsoever, and now a faulty light socket. So, wasn't really in a good mood thursday night.
to be honest, haven't really been having a good week, but ended okay. Kinda annoys me that the middle school children complained to the boss that I was making things too easy, and when I give them work to do, they complain anyway. I guess, they like to work, but not too hard... lol

First Weekend in Seoul

I can feel it already... especially in my arms... The pain is coming! hehe ^^

Monday is stretching day in Komdo. It will help me with my fitness ;) hehe. Tennis and Komdo every day (from monday to friday).

I got back from Seoul today as well. Got the Subway from Yeokgok to the Express Bus Terminal. I got lost a bit, looking for the actual Express bus Terminal, to buy a ticket back to GwangJu, but there was a kind man who helped me. Thank you very much ^^ hehe. I bought some Cd's in Seoul. I listened to the Epik High album on the way to GwangJu. It's very nice ;)

I bought the SonyM2... Its a very sexy camera. I got the white model, which isn't as popular as the black & silver model. But, i think it looks cooler. The Sony price, just for the camera, was 649000won. I got the M2, 2 Gigabyte memory stick and extra battery for 740000won. Not a bad deal I think.

When I get a notebook computer (hopefully in 2 months), I can then upload my photos, and make DVD's to send to family and friends in Australia.

Seoul was a great experience. It was nice to see HM and DS again. It felt a little weird to see them in Korea, after seeing them in Australia only a few months ago. But, it was good to see my hanguk hyong and my ilbon hyong again ;) We went to Yongsan (I bought the M2, Daisuke bought a MP3 player), and then Itaewon (I bought a baseball shirt, sandles, some gifts for family for christmas). Had dinner with HM, DS and their flatmate SH.

Sunday, DS and I went to Incheon, and had a look at ChinaTown there. So much better than China town in Melbourne! HM had a TOEIC exam, so he couldn't make it. In the afternoon, DS and I met up with YM1 and YM2, they took us to Cheongyecheon (I hope that is right), a small river in Seoul, which has had work down, and is now very popular. Kyobo is a large underground book/music/marketplace thing, bought a few things there. DS wanted Pasta for dinner, so we found a place near there, and got Pasta and Pizza. When we got back to the flat, DS and I went shopping in Home Plus (that is open for 24hours) nearby, and bought a few things. I bought a 2 movies, and a korean book ;)

Bought some soju to drink with HM and DS for the last night I was in Seoul... On friday, saturday and sunday nights, got to bed at 3am each time. It cought up with me monday morning, since I had to get up at 6:30, to get an early bus back to GwangJu, so I could make it back to work in time. Choosing the Udeung (deluxe) bus was a good idea... more comfortable seats!

So, got back to SaChang with enough time to get home, unpack, start a load of waching, have a shower (I had a shower before I left Seoul, but for some reason (which I dont know) the heaters were on full blast on the subway and bus, so I was a bit yucky) and get to work with enough time to get things organised.

After Work, and after Komdo, I am waiting for the school bus to arrive, so I dont have to walk home in the cold windy weather. Will I get up and play tennis at 9am tomorrow morning?
Things were okay today. I got my hot water fixed. It wasn't working properly. Thought I'd give it a second chance today, to see if it was just a chance thing... but, having a cold shower, when it's only 5 degrees outside isn't good... so, got that fixed tonight. Its so quiet now! hehe

On a bad note, had an incident in one of my classes where a boy (possibly 2) who swore and insulted a girl in my class in korean, and I didn't know until the class ended. It was for half the class where the mood was crazy. The really dissapointing thing, is that the students involved were the ones I trust the most. When I first talked to my boss about it, he said it was a misunderstanding, and that the girl that was crying, cries all the time. I told him, that whether she cries all the time or not, isn't the point. Children at the age of 12, have a concept of what is right and what is wrong. I told him that if it happens again, I dont want them in my class. They have no right to do that to anyone.

On the way back to my place, to let the plumber in to fix my hot water, we had another discussion about it. He had to talk to the girls mum (from what he told me, more like tolerate her anger), and he said that I was right - I shouldn't have to put up with that. The downside to that is that when students say rude/obscene/innapropriate things in korean, I have no idea what they're saying... One way to fix it: no korean in my class.

So... because of today's incident... here are the new class rules (in English and Korean):

1. Act respectfully at all times: to every person and their posessions.
1. 교실에서는 항상 모든 사람에게 공손하고, 물건은 소중히 다루세요.

2: In class, use English at all times. Do not use Korean in class, unless Andy선생님 says to.
2: 수업중에는, 항상 영어를 사용하세요. 학생들은 Andy 선생님이 허락할때 한국말을 할 수 있습니다.

3: Only sit on chairs. Do not sit on, or climb over the tables.
3: 의자에만 앉도록 하세요. 책상에 앉거나, 올라가지 마세요.

4: Put your hand up and wait, if you want Andy선생님's attention.
4: Andy 선생님의 주의를 원한다면, 손을 들고 기다리세요.

5: When Andy선생님 is talking, listen carefully, and dont interrupt.
5: Andy 선생님이 말할때는 주의깊게 듣고, 끼어들지 마세요.

Remember, Andy선생님 is an English teacher, not an English/Korean translator.
Andy 선생님은 영어선생님이지, 영어를 한국말로 번역하는 사람이 아니라는 것을 명심하세요.
You would be surprised how pissed off a toilet that doesn't flush properly and waiting 10 minutes to use hot water can make you! There days where I dont care, and there are days like today, where every little thing just pisses you off instantly! It's not good...

Things are going okay... I get paid in a few days... and a bit under half of that will be going towards a digital camera... a Sony M2! They look great, and take really good stills and movies as well... Thats my treat, for making it to korea, and surviving this long ^^

Still not sure to buy it in GwangJu or Seoul... Might be cheaper in Seoul... See how it goes... Depends how impatient I get ^^

I'm gonna start Komdo (Japanese fencing) next month, I'm really looking forward to that. I'm still doing the morning tennis thing too... I think I'll start walking there, instead of getting a ride with my boss. I feel like I am relying on him too much...

Pepero Day

>Pepero day... 11/11 in Korea... The day where you buy heaps of chocolate coated biscuts, kinda shaped like an orchestra conductor's baton, and give to the people you like... kind of like a november valentine's day.

Going to GwangJu this weekend, gonna check it out. Get a hamburger! With real meat! hehe

This week has been okay. Been getting tired and sore from tennis, but, having one day off helps. I'm thinking of starting Komdo soon (Kendo), looks cool, and fun ^^

It was good to see SJ, HP and YS again... We went to NaeJang Mountain, famous for it's autumn leaves (some great colors there)... HyunPil got a little lost (only because he didn't listen to YonSil giving him directions ^^ hehe). But, I was so happy to see them. I took some great photos, and can't wait to see them again. Hopefully going to Changwon soon... Maybe, I could spend christmas or new years with them... that's not too far away...
Started plaing tennis again. My boss is a good tennis player, and he is training me every weekday in the morning. When I get better, I will start to play some games. When I play tennis in the morning, it makes me feel good for the rest of the day.

Classes are going okay too. I am starting to get used to things here in Korea, but there are still alot of things to experience. I haven't been to GwangJu yet. I will do that next weekend. SJ, HP and YS are coming to see me tomorrow. It will be nice to see them again ;)
Didn't do much today... Just went to GwangJu Immigration to start to get my Alien ID card, and went to back to change my Australian money (they were as slow as Australian banks!). Also, went to a stationary shop new GwangJu bus station, and bought some stuff...
Got back to SaChang, got some lunch, and then teaching classes... SuJeong, HyunPil and YonSil might visit me this saturday, which will be cool ^^
Everything's going well, until I got this cold last wednesday... but, my boss took me to the chemist here and helped me out. Got some cold and flu tablets, and drank this health drink thing. Today, if the first cloudy and raining day (as in all day) here in SaChang. It's a bit cold... but okay ;)

Was going to go to GwangJu this weekend, but that didn't happen. Couldn't sleep well last night, and was going to go with a friend in the morning... completely slept through my alarm, and missed my friends call to go to the bus stop... I will go next week, or the week after...Anyway, I'm going into GwangJu with my boss tomorrow morning, to get my Alien Registration Card and to change my Australian Money... That will be good...
Just hanging out in SaChang this weekend, since it is my first weekend here. I slept in today until 11am korean time (12pm australia (호주) time). The cable/satellite TV people came at that time, to fix the TV... The cable TV wasn't working properly... and I wanted to watch a few different things... 17000won (about $20) a month for about 30 - 40 channels! most are in korean, but there are a few english things as well ;)

Had a shower, and then went shopping today... Went to one of the supermarkets, and bought a few things... I think I will have to go to GwangJu to get margarine... they dont sell it here... hehe ;) It was a big effort to go shopping... to think about all the things i need, and then to think in korean... haha...

>now, I am in Internet cafe... the call PC bang (방) here... there are many boys here playing computer games! no girls at all!
Was up until 4am last night, drinking with new friends. It was me, my boss, other foreign teacher (that leaves tomorrow) local Hapkido master, we went to dinner in a seafood restraunt, and then started to drink soju! Ah, they drank so much! I coulnd't drink that much, because I dont drink often. But, i still had a good time. We drank about 8 bottles altogether, but I think I only drank about 1 bottle.. the others had 7. I think, in time, I will be better at drinking Soju ^^ haha

Today, after drinking last night, I didn't feel like korean food. We went to a restraunt for lunch, and I didn't eat much, just had a basic soup and rice, drinking water. As must as I wanted to try new korean food, I didn't think I could handle it... I just wanted western food! haha! I knew it would make me feel better. There is a local Pizza place, so I had pizza for dinner... I feel so much better now!

Today, I spent time with the other teacher, meeting the other students. I am slowly getting used to things now... but, still many things confuse me! hehe

I also found out that the building that the hagwon (english institute) that I work in, has a roof, that you can go on to... I am not used to that, so I was very surprised! I was talking with a middle school student, and his english is good. We talked about many things - korean things, australian things, korean middle school, favourite school subjects, throwing a paper plane of the roof! He seemed really friendly. I think that many koreans are friendly to foreigners... some, maybe to give a good impression of their country... but, most, because they are kind, caring and warm-hearted people ^^

I Arrived!

Well... I made it to Korea yesterday... after 28 hours of flights and airports! Airline food is totally not good for you! I arrived in Gwangju at 12pm on the tuesday... after checking in at my first flight in Mildura at 9am the previous day (8am korean time)... I was so tired when I arrived in GwangJu... I didn't sleep well on the flights... but Singapore Airlines were pretty good. The Mebourne to Singapore flight had about 60 movies to choose from. I watched War of the Worlds... was a bit shit... but it passed the time.

When I arrived as singapore, it was about 10pm local time, and almost 30 degrees! It was so humid! I badly needed a shower just after I left singapore. The Singapore airport was huge! Heaps of Shops!

I met YM at Incheon airport. It was nice to meet her. Actually, I thought she would have been a bit shorter, so I was a bit surprised! ;) It was nice to meet a friend there ;)

Felt good just to relax tuesday afternoon.... Had a shower, in the bathroom that has no shower curtain... that will take some time to get used to... haha... Anyway, the appartment is nice. I'm on the first floor.

I met two other english teachers here, that will be here for the time I am. A guy from New York, who lives in the next appartment over... and a Canadian guy, who lives on the 14th (top) floor of the same appartment building. Everyone seems pretty cool, and SaChang seems like a nice place.

It's only my 2nd day in korea... I am a little bit nervous, and little bit excited, a little bit scared... but, feels really good ;)
Well, moved back home last sunday. Only took 7 hours to drive. Got a speeding fine! grrr! Dont the cops have anything else to do... like catch criminals or something, rather than give someone a $210 (170000W for our korean viewers ^^) on a lazy sunday afternoon?!?! Anyway, I made it home, and have just been chilling out at home. Met up with Lisa and Sara for coffee monday night, two friends from Uni... Had lunch with my Nan on tuesday. Had lunch with Garth (high school friend) on wednesday, and played a game of minigolf. Still excited about going to Korea. The idea that I'm going sunk in ages ago... But, the idea that I'll be there for 12 months (or maybe more), has just sink in... It's a bit annoying that it will take me almost 28 hours for all the travel... But, I'm ready for this adventure to begin! ^^

Boring

My last few days in Melbourne aren't exactly fun... The only good things are seeing friends before I go. I had dinner with G last night. For a girl who says that she wants dinner, and isn't hungry, she sure can eat alot ;) hehe ;) Anyway, I had a great time with her last night - I really will miss her.

Anyway, I'm almost prepared to go to Korea. My stuff is organised and almost packed. Just gotta hang out in Melbourne until sunday. Then one week at home with family, before I go to Korea.

I haven't been getting much sleep this week. I think it is because I'm really excited about going to Korea, and that I'm not doing much during the day to make me sleepy. I know i will sleep well sunday night back home... Packing all my things, and driving for 7 hours will make you a bit tired.

2 weeks to go

Had a pretty good weekend. Met up with C on Sunday night and had dinner. We went to a Malaysian restaurant. It was really nice meeting her. We talked about alot of different things, and had a great time ;)

Saturday and Sunday weren't too bad... Just started going through all my stuff - putting it in bags and boxes, getting ready to move all my stuff back to my parents house. I didn't realise how much stuff I actually bought while being in Melbourne for 8 months. I've already got my suitcase half packed ;) Slowly getting other things organised.

Got my International Drivers Permit sorted out today... so, watch out, Korea! I could be driving when I'm there ;) haha ;)
Received my Korean visa in the mail today, so as you can guess, I'm really excited. I've got one more week left in Melbourne, so, it will feel good not to stress about things ;)

Not much else to say, other than I had a weird dream last night. I've been having weird dreams lately, and i think it has something to do with getting too warm in bed... lol... What I mean is, whenever I've woken up from one of these weird dreams, I've been sweating, felt really hot, and very thirsty... anyway, it's just a bit weird... lol
Went to Chadstone shopping centre today, with the main purporse of buying books for working in South Korea. Found some good ones for teaching grammar and other concepts. I bought seven books, but one is a Korean phrase book ;) I got a discount at Boders as well, because I'm a teacher... About time that being a teacher came in handy when shopping ;) Also went to Kmart, to buy some cheap basic clothes before I get to Korea...

For some reason, for the past few weeks, every time I walk through the security things, like the have at the supermarkets, Borders, Target, Kmart... etc... they always beep at me! I didn't steal anything! Especially when you walk into the store, and it beeps! It's really starting to piss me off!

Last days in Melbourne

Looks like I'll be leaving Melbourne in a week and a bit, about the 9th or 10th of October will be my last day in Melbourne. Will spend a week with my family and a few friends before I leave for Korea on the 17th. I'm really starting to get excited about it now. Last time I went to Korea, I wasn't really exited until the night before. To get to Korea this time, has taken alot more planning and effort as well, so, I've been excited for a while now.

Spent some time with a good friend today. She'll miss me... and I'll miss her too. She's really helped me out, especially after being in a job that I didn't like, that made me think about myh chosen profession... It's not good when you start doubting yourself, and your ability. Sure, sometimes you need a bit of a shake to see if you've chosen the right thing, but, I know that I enjoy what I do, and that I'm good at it.

Hopefully, I will get my Korean visa soon - in a few days. At the end of this week would be nice, but realistically, it will be early next week. Its the mailing things to various places that's taken most of the time to get this visa. But, I have a tendency to stress about things, especially when I have no control over them. But, for some unknown reason, things seem to be going weill with everything at the moment ;)

I've been thinking about what I'm gonna do when I get to Korea, other than work. Working will take up most of my time, but after that first pay cheque arrives, I would like to start travelling. I'll get two weeks paid holiday when I am there - but, I dont plan that far ahead. At the moment, I've only planned up to the 18th of October... which is when I arrive in Korea.

21 days to go

My visa letter thing arrived by courier today ;) Now, I can process my korean visa. I will send it off today ;) Just one step closer to coming to Korea now ;)

I watched the movies that I bought yesterday. Was really nice to watch Sphere in a dark room, with the 5.1 surround system turned up nice and loud ;)

>Will send off the Visa stuff to the Korean embassy later, and pick up my plane tickets and get travel insurance sorted out.

21 days to go... ^^
Spent some time G today, a friend I met at uni 2 years ago. She moved to Melbourne just before I did 8 months ago, and we always keep in touch. We went to the Melbourne show, and went on a ride. We felt a little sick after one, so we had to go home... hehe. We met up in the city a few hours later, did a bit of shopping and had an early dinner in a chinese restraunt in China Town. We saw a movie poster of a new Andy Lau movie... and she was so surprised that I knew who he was... haha ;)

I bought some things to take with me to Korea, as gifts for the people I will be working with ;) I also found my way into the Morning Glory shop on Swanston St... I bought some more things in there too... I love Korean stationary ;)

I talked to SJ on the phone today as well. Its always good to talk to her. She is a good friend, caring and kind... and I have never met a korean who was not friendly, not caring and not kind... Maybe I am very lucky. I got a surprise call from D as well - another friend I will miss when I leave Melbourne T_T

Bought some discount DVD's from Big W... having some kind of sale. I bought "Sphere" and "Cypher". Sphere is nice to watch in 5.1 surround ;) I might watch Cypher tonight. Watched it once a while ago. It was a good movie, from what I remember... and not just because it had Lucy Liu in it ;)

I bought lunch from the shopping centre I went to... Had to get Subway... here is my ultimate subway sandwich: Chicken Fillet (bacon, optional) on wheat, with lettuce, tomato, heaps of capsicum, heaps of onion, heaps of pickles, with pepper (no salt), with honey mustard dressing (barbeque, an optional extra with the bacon). So nice ;)

When I got home, talked to my housemate about when I'm moving out. I've got about two more weeks in Melbourne, before I visit family and friends back in my hometown. I'll be at home for about a week, before I start my jeorney to Korea. This time, my trip to Korea is more serious - moving there for a year is a bit more hardcore than a 3 week vacation.

Reflection

I was thinking about my vaction to Korea today. I remember having such a great time there - experiencing new things, and meeting new people. I wouldn't have met Steve, Tony or any of the other people I met though them, if I didn't go to Korea. It's funny how good things can just happen... If I didn't get on that last plane from Melbourne to Mildura, I wouldn't have met Steve. If I wouldn't have met Steve, I wouldn't have met Tony and Mie. I also woulnd't have met Daisuke... or any other friends though them. I wouldn't have gone down the Great Ocean Road...

Anyway, fate (if you believe in any of that stuff) always has interesting things ready for you to take on, or deal with... or whatever. In 3 and a half weeks, I will be flying to Korea, to start a new chapter in my life. Some people think it's pretty cool. Others think it's pretty extreme. But, I'm the one going to Korea, not them. As much advice as people have, it's up to you to listen to it, or act on it. Obviously, depending on how well you know them, or trust them, you will take not, or tell them to shut up 'coz they have no idea what they're on about.

I really apprectiate what SuJeong and her family did for me when I was in Korea. They gave me a good impression of Korea. They did so much of a good job, that I am now going back there, for at least a year. Things will be different though. I will be living by myself. I wont be depending on anyone to instantly translate for me. I'll be working. It's gonna be a bit struggle. Also, like every society, and after living there for a while, I will start to see the bad things along with the good things - which is to be expected.

It is a big jeourny, a big change... a big risk. If you cant take a risk, where is the excitment in your life?
Booked my tickets to Korea today. Will have a stopover in Singapore for about 2 hours, but thats okay. Got a few things to organise before hand. The idea is just starting to sink in. With my last holiday to Korea, it didn't really sink in until the day before, so that will probably happen with me again ;)
Not really much else to say... It's school holidays, so haven't really been up to much. Just waiting for my package from Korea to arrive, so I can process the rest of my visa.
My korean visa was approved yesterday, so that was good. Will book tickets next week. Also finished work yesterday. The thought of working in Korea, finally sunk in after leaving that place. Feels good not to have to go back there.

Just gotta focus on getting to Korea now... really looking forward to it ;)

Also, the ATB Greatest Hits album "Seven Years" was released in Australia this week. It includes the single versions of all his singles, a rework of "Let U Go", and a few new songs. It also includes the single versions of songs that weren't released in Australia. If you like dance music, it's worth getting! Afterall, he is one of my most favourite artists.
Spent about $1000 on getting a suit and various other parts of the formal wear thing. Was kinda surprised by the price of stuff... I guess if you wanna look good, you gotta fork out the money. Speaking of forking out money, $1700 is the cheapest open return ticket to Korea. Anyway, thats just another speed-hump on the drive-thru of the jeorney to korea... lol

Got ATB's Beleive in Me EP in the mail earlier this week... it's not bad... been playing it alot...
Things happen pretty quick. I've been offered a job in Korea, and I decided to take this one. It is in a hagwon, in a small place called SaChangRi, 30 minutes from GwangJu, in the South-West of South Korea. Just gotta get al the paperwork ready, and send it off. So, it is very likely that I will be in Korea in October ^^
They dont mess around in Korea... Pretty quick over there. I put my resume online tursday night, it's approved by friday lunch time. I check my email after work, and I have 3 job offers already! One for an English Village, one in a Hagwon about 30 minutes from Gwangju, and another in a public (middle or high school) in Gyeonggi-do. The Gyonggi-do job interests me the most. Been doing research into Korean public schools all weekend, seems very interesting.
2 weeks of work to go. Things have been okay there. Some people are being nice to me, since they know I'm leaving. Anyway, at the moment, I am concentrating on working in Korea... so, that is my main priority now.
Will be good to be in Korea again ;)

3 weeks of work to go

I'm hoping to get as many things done during the last three weeks, so I can get to Korea and start teaching English ^^ Finished my TESOL training tonight, so, gotta get organised and motivated ^^

Had a great time meeting all the people at the TESOL training course. Hope they do really well and enjoy their time getting to where they want to go and have a great time in the process!
It's been a week since I wrote anything... so, thought I may as well write something.
This week has been interesting. At work, things are just normal... so, its still shit. But, 4 weeks to go (and counting) ^^ My TESOL training is coming to a (busy and tiring) end. Half-way though my last online elective, and I have the in-class stuff this week, from wednesday from sunday... and then having to work as well, i'll be buggered... maybe I might have to take a "mental health" day off from work... hehe ;)
Had a bit of a lazy weekend... Finished studying for the IELTS online elective for my TESOL course, and did the exam tonight... Passed with 89%! Studying the structure of the IELTS exam and course was pretty hardcare, but, got through it. So, that was my weekend...
Except for updating the tracks on my PDA... Added a couple of Se7en (a korean singer) songs, that have been stuck in my head since yesterday, Yeol Jeong, and Dugoleum... Some fine Korean Hiphop there ;) Hyunmin-i hyong and Donggyun-i hyong would be proud... lol
Anyway... work again tomorrow... 25 working days... and counting ;)
Now that I told my bosses I dont want to work next term, I feel a bit better about work now. Sounds weird... But, it was a tough decision to come to. But, in the end, the only one who's gonna look out for you... is yourself... so, you gotta do what's right. In a shit situation, its better to get out as quick as you can, before you get dragged so far down... you cant see a way out.
Signed up for TESOL training monday, paid half my course fees, so I have access to online courses now... trying to get through the grammar stuff... it's pretty interesting ^^
